A week in the Philippines

First week in the Philippines has been busy with travelling as we have covered some long bus rides to north starting from Manila. Then Baguio, Sagada, Batad and Banaue. Currently we are on our way back to Manila and from there to Boracay Island tomorrow morning.

So far I’d have to say that what comes to travelling in the Philippines, it has been a lot smoother than I thought. Zero harassment, happy and helpful locals (almost all speak English), reasonably low price level all result easy and smooth travelling experience.

Top picks so far are clearly the rice terraces in Batad and Banaue. These valleys are just breathtaking. Totally recommended for relatively fit traveler. In Banaue even less fit are able to go and enjoy the scenery.

Sagada which was our first main stop of the week, was a minor disappointment. What they offer are different kind of hikes and short trips to the surrounding area plus caving activities. Unfortunately Sagada falls short from its reputation and guiding system which is monopolized by the locals is more amateur than professional organization. Sagada is sympathetic little community but especially the outdoor activities need some rethinking and development.
