Ok, so I’m back in Finland. Rest of the stops on my trip
were Mandalay, Yangon, Bangkok and Doha. In Mandalay we checked out the normal
tourist stops Mandalay Hill, Royal Palace and U Bein Bridge. In Yangon we familiarized
ourselves with the Shwedagon Pagoda and in Bangkok we enjoyed a final night at
the Khao San Road. In Doha I had only limited time, but Museum of Islamic Art
is worth a visit.
And then, the recommendations (from a point of view that
nature and activities are more interesting than partying and museum/palace
visits).
Recommended
Batad/Banaue – rice terraces in the valleys are just
breathtaking. Too bad the weather did not allow some longer hiking in Batad.
Bagan – my favourite stop in Myanmar although earthquake had
closed several sites. A knowledgeable local guide also recommended.
Have potential
Sagada – Marlboro Hills and Blue Soil have plenty of good
hiking opportunities as the tracks are opened up again after latest Taifoon. Be
prepared because guides may not be.
Kentung – authentic Myanmar, enjoy the best foods at Lo Htein Lu restaurant and at the Central Market.
