The Wonders of Egypt

Slogan “Egypt is safe” is something that I have now heard many times during the first ten days here. Everyone here is eager to see tourism pick up again. Unfortunately the aftermath of the plane crash is still wide open so I think now would actually be a good time to come and see Egypt before the hordes will return. From traveler’s point of view I have not experienced any real safety concerns.
Our tour has so far covered Cairo, Aswan and Luxor. Currently we are on our way to Nuweiba for some beach time.

My recommendations would be the Citadel and the Pyramids in Cairo. Aim for the panoramic view with both and you’ll be able to see two totally different views of Cairo. At the pyramids going to desert for panorama is also a good way to avoid most of the harassment.

In Aswan I definitely recommend the Temple of Isis on the island of Philae which is nice stop off the most touristic track. Abu Simbel is a long bus ride away but maybe too important to miss. If you hang out almost till closing time, you’ll be able to get some clean shots too.

In Luxor I recommend Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple which are really touristy but also really interesting. Valley of the Kings (no photos allowed, 3 thumbs included in the ticket) together with the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut are ok, but I could have done without those.
